Shameless Self Promotion or Being In A Band
There’s a hell of a lot of people who love music and start bands because of this. They play in bands for the sheer enjoyment they get from playing music and having a laugh with their mates. I would certainly place myself in this bracket.
After this, a band wants other people to hear them, and to appreciate them and their talent. With me it is the same. I want people to listen to my music and tell me I’m brilliant. I’m not bothered about money, although I could do with some. Like bands before us, we added ourselves to myspace to get ourselves out there. We uploaded our rough demo’s, as well as some (poor quality) live recordings. People seem to have had a listen, but nobody has told me how amazing I am.
I stumbled upon last.fm. A huge music network. I decided to put my band up on this site too in a similar fashion(http://www.last.fm/music/The+Tommy+Was). In the first few months we’ve had a good few hundred listeners, which is of course brilliant. The main problem is the fact that most people have only been listening to our cover of The Arctic Monkeys, and have not followed up and checked out our own tunes. How gutting.
So I am unsure of how happy I am with our number of listeners. On the one hand it’s great to be heard at all, surely, but I just wish there was more interest in our songs.
So I urge you to check out OUR songs, and then follow up by telling us how brilliant we are……
